MRI addition

In 1987, ARTEKNA’s principals helped to celebrate the opening of the original West Expansion at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. The master planning and design provided by ARTEKNA’s principals set the framework in place for the expansive growth that Riverview has undertaken in the last 30 years. The infrastructure put in place then allowed the 2017 West Expansion to happen in a planned, logical manner.

The 1987 West Addition established the circulation patterns and structural grid that continued into the 2017 West Addition as originally planned. The 1987 addition included a new Imaging Department along the West perimeter. This addition had the latest in imaging technology – a CT, something that most county hospitals did not have at the time. Space to accommodate mobile or modular imaging modalities, a MRI and Cath Lab, was included in the planning. Over the last 30 years, multiple renovations within the department allowed for additional and faster CTs, a permanent MRI, and multiple upgrades to the other imaging equipment.

As the need for a second MRI became apparent, it was decided to begin planning the new addition. There was also the need to grow several of the outpatient services that are at the center of how healthcare is provided, namely the Pain Clinic and Wound Care. Also with the realization that there is mobile technology that needs to be provided now, such as a PET scanner, and in the future, a mobile technology zone was planned along the West perimeter.

Healthcare planning must provide the flexibility to adapt to future change, either planned or not. This became a guiding principal in the planning of the West Addition. Shell space was therefore developed to accommodate an expansion of imaging services such as for a larger second MRI, CT/PET, and Nuclear Medicine. We believe the planning is in place to accommodate the changes over the next 30 years.

Cardiology/Cath lab

ARTEKNA assisted Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, IN in creating the space for the latest in cardiac catheterization technology. Direct Capture Image Technology allows the clearest, most precise view of the heart and of the tiny arteries and vessels that can become blocked.

This new cath lab is part of the First Phase of implementing Riverview’s Long Range Plan for Cardiology Services. The location of the existing Cardiology Department within an existing building that was constructed in 1967 presented many complex planning, design and construction challenges. The existing Cardiology Department was literally turned inside-out by turning the original central access corridor into a clean core. New access corridors from the outside perimeter were created on top of existing roof structure.
